CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program - applications now open

CDC’s Program Performance and Evaluation Office invites early-career professionals to apply for inclusion in the 9th cohort of the CDC Evaluation Fellowship Program. This initiative represents a major commitment by CDC to program evaluation and program improvement. Fellows work under the leadership of CDC’s Chief Evaluation Officer; they are matched with CDC host programs in Atlanta, Georgia, to work on program evaluation activities with those programs.




Applying for the Fellowship
Applicants for the Fellowship go through an extensive selection process, including interviews with potential host programs, culminating in CDC host programs and Fellows matched based on mutual interest. Find more information and the application at the application web site.External

GRADUATE DIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP

                       

SAMUEL A. ATTOH GRADUATE DIVERSITY FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT 2019-2020



Two Diversity Fellowships in honor of Samuel A. Attoh will be available to incoming graduate students who will be full-time starting in fall of 2019. Diversity Fellowships will be awarded to one student in a PhD program and one student in a master’s program (MA, MS, MPP, and MPH). The fellowship provides an $18,000 stipend and a full tuition scholarship (up to 18 credit hours) over nine months. The award is renewable as long as the recipient is a current student in good academic standing. The award will be up to a maximum of 5 years for the PhD student and 2 years for the master’s student. There will also be a $500 stipend each year for professional development (e.g. attending research conferences). 

Eligibility criteria:

  • Nominees must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or current Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status
  • Nominee should be from non-majority (African American, Latino/Latina, Native American, Asians) that are under-represented at Loyola University Chicago
  • Nominees must have submitted an application for graduate admission to Loyola University Chicago by the date of their nomination.
  • The department commits to giving the doctoral student a regular merit award in case their nominees are not selected for this fellowship. It is highly encourage for master’s students to be offered funding.
Expectations:
  • All awardees will be engaged in the graduate community and are strongly encouraged to participate in initiatives and programs enhancing diversity (e.g., EDGE: Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education, involvement with Arrupe, mentoring, and/or community service).

  • Opportunities in teaching and research are highly valued and necessary in doctoral education.  Therefore, it is strongly recommended that doctoral students engage in research or teaching activities during their fellowship and arrange these experiences with the GPD after completing their first year.  

  • Annual report prepared by student and GPD addressing engagement in activities, presentations and/or publications needs to be submitted to the Graduate School by early May. 

Application is by departmental nomination only. 
Graduate Program Directors may nominate one individual for each of these fellowships (one PhD and one Master’s). The following materials are required:

  1. A letter discussing the program's reasons for the particular nomination. This needs to be an applicant who meets the diversity criteria and for PhD nominees, has been approved for merit funding from the Department.

  1. A letter from the applicant addressing how they would use the Diversity Fellowship to give back to Loyola University Chicago.

  1. The nominee’s complete name and (if you are GPD of more than one program) the exact program that they applied for, so that the committee can look up the correct application on Slate.

Please include all materials into a single PDF, and send the document via email to Michelle Cerullo, Awards Coordinator in the Graduate School, at mcerullo@luc.edu by midnight February 15, 2019 for PhD nominees and March 1, 2019 for Master’s nominees.

Agrochemical Use, Implications for Public Health, and Challenges in the Caribbean Region

Dr. Glasgow has conducted projects crosscutting social, health, and environmental issues in Grenada, and at the regional level in eight countries in the Caribbean region. She has implemented protocols and methodologies for regional organizations such as the Caribbean Development Bank and international organizations, such as International Fund for Agriculture Development and the World Bank. Her research focuses on pesticide use and health risks, water quality monitoring of harvested rainwater, antibiotic stewardship in food animals and humans, climate change and ecosystems, and zoonosis. Dr. Glasgow received a Leaders Award from the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Disease Leaders Award, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Defense Armed Forces Health Surveillance Center.

Environmental Health Interns (Bloomington MN)

Primary Objective
The City of Bloomington is seeking 3 individuals to serve an internship from May through August 2019. Under the direction of a registered sanitarian, interns will be responsible for conducting rental housing inspections, inspecting licensed public swimming pools, collecting beach water samples, and working in other environmental health areas as needed. Opportunities may be available to do directed projects if they fall within the scope of our division.
 
Examples of Duties
  • Conducting rental housing inspections.
  • Inspecting licensed public swimming pools.
  • Investigating complaints of City code violations.
  • Collecting beach water samples.
  • Data entry and filing.
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or earning a degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Studies, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry or a related science field.  If in the process of earning a degree in any of these fields, candidate must have completed at least their second year of the degree program.
  • Valid driver's license.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience inspecting public pools, licensed rental houses, or collecting beach water samples.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Knowledge of/familiarity with the City of Bloomington.
Supplemental Information

2018 Wage Range: $17.70 - $19.55 hourly.  (Subject to change for 2019.)
Approximately 40 hours per week.
Not exempt from overtime, non benefits-eligible.
