JOB SUMMARY                                                                                                                         

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Health Programs or designee. The Director of Epidemiology directs and oversees all aspects of health status assessment and health planning for use in agency and community based strategic planning and program development. Applies principles of epidemiology, health informatics and planning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree or higher in Epidemiology or Biostatistics, or Master's degree or higher in Public Health, with a concentration in Epidemiology,  Biostatistics, or Infectious Diseases is required
• Minimum five (5) years' experience working in community epidemiologic analysis of population health data is required
• Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience is required
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in disease surveillance and control; chronic disease assessment and prevention; demography; public health informatics; or community health assessment and planning is required
• Must obtain NIMS FEMA IS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications within six months is  required
• Must be able to travel to locations throughout the Cook County area is required

Open Research Project Coordinator Position

Laboratory for Human Neuroscience

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

The Laboratory for Human Neuroscience, under the direction of Dr. Joel Voss, is seeking a full-time Research Project Coordinator. Current research in the laboratory involves neuroimaging, noninvasive brain stimulation, and eye-tracking methods for studying memory. The successful candidate will contribute to an ongoing, large-scale study on the effects of noninvasive brain stimulation on memory brain networks in human research participants, supported by the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Mental Health. We are a large and vibrant team of full-time research staff, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty seeking someone who is motivated, detail-oriented, conscientious, and adept at solving novel problems to join our team. Our research protocols evolve with our findings and so we are particularly interested in individuals who can creatively find solutions to challenges associated with implementing new procedures and technologies as they are developed.

Primary responsibilities involve working in a leadership role within a large team to: oversee and manage data collection operations, contribute to the development of new and revised study procedures, oversee recruitment and retention of research participants, manage study equipment and resources, assist with the preparation of data summaries for federal reporting requirements, and assist with data collection operations.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• A bachelor’s degree in psychology, biology, neuroscience, or a related field
• A master’s degree in a field related to scientific project management and/or at least five years of experience in a research leadership role 
• Experience in cognition and/or neuroscience experiments with humans (especially EEG or MRI)

• Strong organization abilities and experience with IRB procedures
• Experience in planning and coordinating recruitment of research participants
• Experience DBMS (SQL, Access, etc.)
• Ability to problem solve in a collaborative and dynamic working environment

Learning from Ebola and the Future U.S. Role in Global Health – October 18

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), Rollins School of Public Health/Emory University (Emory), and the Association of Schools and Programs for Public Health (ASPPH) are co-hosting a free global health symposium, Learning from Ebola and the Future U.S. Role in Global Health, to discuss two important 2017 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine reports on Wednesday October 18 from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, GA.

The first panel on the Ebola report will include a review of provider experiences in the Atlanta region during the 2014 Ebola outbreak, and the second panel on the global health report will include an exploration of the current state of U.S. investments in global health and implications for the future.

Speakers include Drs. Gerald Keusch (Boston University School of Medicine), Dr. Inger Damon (CDC), Dr. Bruce Ribner (Emory University School of Medicine), Michael Merson (Duke University), Dr. Dionisio Herrera-Guibert (TEPHINET), Dr. Anne Schuchat (CDC), and Dr. Carlos del Rio (Emory University Rollins School of Public Health and School of Medicine). The Epidemiologist IV functions as the lead epidemiologist in the surveillance and control of general communicable diseases (GCDs), i.e., diseases excluding sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) within suburban Cook County. Coordinates investigative and control activities for any GCD outbreak that may arise. Develops protocols for reducing infection risk and coordinates the investigation and response activities associated with outbreaks as necessary. Responsible for surveillance activities, staff supervision and training, and program

development. Responsible for developing educational materials, fact sheets, guidance documents, investigational questionnaires and other such tools pertaining to communicable disease control, as appropriate. Responsible for the preparation of periodic reports on the incidence of GCDs, outbreak response summaries and responses to requests for investigational summaries under the Freedom of Information Act. Assists in the development of program-specific policies and procedures pertaining to communicable disease control. Responsible for meeting performance standards established by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and for enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to timely reporting of reportable communicable diseases. Provides information and training to healthcare providers on reporting requirements and control measures for communicable diseases. Keeps the management fully informed of pertinent information and follows through on assignments. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Master of Public Health, Master of Science or equivalent with concentration in epidemiology or epidemiology and biostatistics.

·         Proficiency using SAS.

·         Two (2) two years of work experience, including administrative/supervisory/leadership roles in one or more of the following public health programs: communicable disease control, immunizations/vaccine-preventable diseases, sexually transmitted diseases/infections, or HIV/AIDS.

A. Provide day‐to‐day program outreach and education throughout Illinois.   

1. Promote vision and eye health awareness to medical professionals and the general public through

clinics, community centers, and educational institutions using the Healthy Eyes Series.  

2. Participate in health and corporate fairs to promote vision health awareness.

3. Coordinate adult vision education events with various partners in and around the Chicagoland area as well as with optometry schools in IL.  

4. Manage the ISPB Eye Glass Replacement and Low Vision Aids reimbursement program.

5. Enhance and/or develop systems to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the programs.

6. Continuously expand personal knowledge of vision and eye health to better implement programs.  

7. Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on outreach activities.

8. Keep current on findings and recommendations of the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health.

9. Train and certify in the Prevent Blindness children’s vision screening program, and promote children’s vision and eye health across the state (potential target audiences could include pediatric office staff, private preschool and daycare staff, etc.).

10. Recruit and train medical and outreach staff to incorporate adult vision and eye health into their

practices (i.e. Healthy Eyes, Diabetic Educator, Glaucoma programs).

11. Train and manage MPH interns from IL universities to conduct “Healthy Eyes” presentations and

research projects.

12. Promote vision screening certification to university medical and outreach staff.  

B. Communication

1. Keep in contact with legislators and update PB Illinois and ISPB followers regarding laws/bills related to eye health in IL.  

2. Update and maintain ISPB social media with timely and educational information.

3. Create and distribute a quarterly newsletter to ISPB/PB IL followers.

C. ISPB Administration  

1. Assist Executive Director with administrative duties associated with ISPB including:  

a. Preparation for board meetings.  

b. Annual fundraising activities (e.g., mail merges, mass mailings, events).  

D. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, public relations or an allied field. Master’s degree preferred.  

Experience:   

Proven history of outreach or public health program implementation. Background in vision or medical

field helpful.

GENERAL INFORMATION

West Chicago, located in northeastern Illinois, approximately 30 miles west of Chicago, is a diverse, family-oriented community with a rich cultural mix and a proud heritage. BACKGROUND

This Job Posting for a Contractual Program Administrator is initiated at the request of the Healthy West Chicago Advisory Board, a group of key community leaders who have joined together to promote a healthier West Chicago under the fiscal agent of People Made Visible, Inc., a West Chicago 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The primary and initial focus of the Program Administrator is to successfully implement and measure the Healthy West Chicago Community Project (HWC) Action Plan to motivate children and families to adopt healthier lifestyles through healthier choices. In addition, the Program Administrator will grow HWC by the integration of existing community health programs under the HWC umbrella to organize and ensure sustainability. A concurrent focus of the Program Administrator is to generate support for HWC’s mission through comprehensive fundraising and advocacy efforts, with primary responsibility for grant acquisition, reporting and financial management.

The Program Administrator directs HWC programs, measures impact, and assures strong relationships with residents and other key stakeholders on behalf of HWC. Program Administrator will have the choice to subcontract for resources and services necessary to carry out the work plan.

1. Description of the project/placement/practicum
Through this unique training opportunity, interns will gain hands-on experience in several possible areas including: government relations/public policy development, communications/media relations, and/or health and policy research, and, all the while, you will be making a significant difference in the effort to curb Illinois’ obesity epidemic!

2. Description of Illinois Public Health Institute
The Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) mobilizes stakeholders, catalyzes partnerships, and leads action to promote prevention and improve public health systems in order to maximize health, health equity and quality of life for the people of Illinois. IPHI administers a number of partnership-driven projects addressing specific program areas, including the Center for Community Capacity Development (CCCD), the Center for Health and Information Technology (CHIT), and the Center for Policy and Partnership Initiatives (CPPI).

The Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity (IAPO) is a statewide coalition launched and coordinated by the Illinois Public Health Institute. The primary goal of IAPO is to ensure that trends in obesity in Illinois are stable in 2015 and moving downward by 2018. Through public education and direct-action organizing, the Illinois Alliance to Prevent Obesity seeks to:
-Propose new and bold solutions to the obesity epidemic through coordinated and comprehensive policy, systems, and environmental changes (PSE).
-Build a visible statewide movement to reduce obesity.
-Raise obesity reduction and prevention to the top of the policy and public health agendas.
-Disseminate and promote best practices and current information.

3. Expected project outcome or product
Our interns are expected to become part of our team by working on various projects such as:
-Helping to collect and analyze data for policy studies related to public health and obesity policy
-Writing or co-authoring articles for print, fact sheets, press releases, newsletters, briefing materials, website posts, social media posts, and letters to Legislators and the Executive branch
-Assisting with current policy and education campaigns
-Assisting with IAPO workgroup meetings, including conducting background research on topics of interest, developing workgroup resource materials, and/or reaching out to potential new workgroup members to participate
-Listening to, taking notes for, and participating in meetings with coalition partners to address current obesity PSE initiatives
-Drafting surveys, focus group outlines or other tools to collect input from coalition partners and priority communities on IAPO initiatives

4. Skills that would be desirable to accomplish this project
Qualified applicants will possess the following: excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; ability to take initiative on projects; comfort working independently and in a team; an interest in addressing the obesity epidemic through policy and systems change. Prior experience as a research assistant, community organizer, policy intern, or writer is highly desirable, though not required.

6. Compensation and duration of the internship
This is an unpaid position. The selected candidate will be expected to work at least 15 hours per week. The work hours will be somewhat flexible to accommodate the intern’s academic schedule and planned time off, if requested in advance. IPHI will be happy to work with the student’s institution to support course credit or practicum requirements.

Program Evaluation Intern
The Program Evaluation Intern will support the evaluation of YMCA of the USA’s youth development programs. Specifically, the intern will gain knowledge and provide support in the following key areas: analyzing program participation and survey data gathered from YMCA programs and preparing evaluation reports. Under the direct supervision of Program Evaluation staff, the intern will help coordinate the data collection efforts from Y-USA-funded programs.

The internship will be 20 hours/week during summer 2017 with the possibility of beginning in spring 2017 and/or extending the work into the school year.

Functions:
• Assist with data collection, cleaning, analysis, and reporting
• Assist with writing report text and creating graphs, tables, and other data displays

Erie Family Health Center is looking for a compassionate individual like you to join our Lending Hands for Life Team! The LHL Medical Case Manager provides medical case management services to HIV+ clients at Erie Family Health Center (EFHC).

Responsibilities:
-Works with providers, LHL team members, and other staff at the Health Center to coordinate the delivery of services to clients
-Assist with access to care, and facilitate the appropriate use of services
-Complete outreach, client advocacy, assessment, care planning, and facilitating adherence to medical care plans
-Document in the electronic medical record and state-database for all communication related to medical care.


Requirements:
-Bachelor degree required (MSW or related field preferred) or the level of knowledge and experience equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is an acceptable option.
-Two years of progressive experience in a health care delivery organization or health care association.
-Cultural competency to work in a low income, minority environment.
-Familiarity with issues affecting individuals living with HIV.
-Bilingual (English/Spanish) required (May be required to translate for non-English/Spanish only speaking patients and/or guests.)

JOB SUMMARY     

Under the supervision of the Epidemiologist IV, functions as a specialist in communicable disease investigation.  Interviews persons with reported communicable diseases, evaluates the information collected and implements disease control measures in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health's Rules and Regulations for the Control of Communicable Diseases.  Conducts investigations for suspected food-borne illnesses with appropriate referrals to environmental health for team investigation of food establishments.  Enters case information into electronic databases; investigates and closes cases in internal and external electronic databases, including, but not limited to, the Illinois-National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (I-NEDSS) database.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·         Bachelor's Degree or higher, in Public Health or in the natural sciences from an accredited college or university is required.

·         One (1) year professional experience in the area of communicable disease control and field investigation or equivalent is required.

·         Must be able to travel throughout Cook County is required.

·         Must be trained and certified in NIMS FEMA IS -100.b and 700.a Management within six months of employment (required).

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) is required.
