Opportunity
The
Chicago Department of Public Health is looking for a student to aid in an urgent
and extensive scale-up of contact tracing in Chicago. This student must perform
COVID-19 case interviews and contact tracing to support the citywide COVID-19
response using a trauma-informed, culturally respectful approach that builds
trust and facilitates the free sharing of information. The position will also
include connecting diagnosed individuals and their contacts to relevant social
aid resources. Through this boots-on-the-ground experience, the student will
gain crucial skills on a local level that are important to pursue a career in Public
Health. Initially, the student will work remotely and will need access to a
computer and phone. There may be
opportunity to also work locally. Critical training and support will be
provided. This position will require 40 hours a week and the selected student
will work through August, 2020.
Qualifications
● Senior with strong academic record.
● Evidence of effectiveness working
independently, demonstrated self-starter
● Learns quickly in a fast-paced
environment
● Excellent interpersonal skills and
ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a
time of crisis
●
Ability to speak, read, and write English (Second or multiple
languages a plus)
●
A basic understanding of Public Health methodology and infectious
disease pathology
