The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) offers recent graduates from ASPPH-member, Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)-accredited schools and programs of public health an exciting opportunity to gain practical public health experience at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Applications are currently being accepted for the 2020 ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellowship Program; the deadline to apply is Monday, January 27, 2020.
The ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellowship Program offers opportunities for early-career public health professionals by enabling them to train at CDC on a variety of high-priority public health issues. ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellows work closely with nationally recognized experts within the nation’s premier health promotion, prevention, and preparedness agency and global leader in public health.
ASPPH/CDC Fellow, Ms. Katelyn Sives, (who holds a University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health MPH) states, “As an ASPPH fellow in CDC’s Office of Policy, Evaluation and Legislation, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), my role is to handle incoming global requests from the Center for Global Health and collaborate with policy directors to conduct policy reviews on briefs and reports to Congress. I have had the opportunity to coordinate high-level meetings with international visitors to the CDC, including delegates from Israel CDC and the Office of Population Affairs.” She goes on to say, “The ASPPH/CDC Fellowship Program provides an exceptional opportunity to receive post-graduate training in public health and enables fellows to receive mentorship from outstanding public health leaders who encourage fellows to ‘jump in’ and take the reins on their public health career. Fellowship assignments will be based at CDC offices in Atlanta, GA as well as offices in Morgantown WV and Spokane, WA. The fellowship positions are full-time training opportunities for one year beginning in July 2020. Detailed program information can be accessed on the ASPPH website; applications may be submitted through the ASPPH online application system.
To qualify for this fellowship, candidates must have received their masters or doctorate degrees from an ASPPH-member, CEPH-accredited, school or program of public health within the last five years and also be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card status). Preference will be given to candidates with a Certification in Public Health (CPH).
