Engaging health educators who are practitioners at the local or state level in participating with the American Public Health Association (APHA) through its Public Health Education and Health Promotion (PHEHP) Section is an important element in the growth of the public health workforce. Such participation is also a mechanism for recruiting, engaging and retaining new leaders within the PHEHP Section. Often public health educators in local or state health departments or community-based organizations do not have the means to attend initiatives that would further their professional development and contribute to our profession (e.g., the APHA Annual Meeting). In response to that need, PHEHP has established a scholarship (up to 5 awarded this year) to assist public health education and health promotion professionals to participate in the highly valued educational opportunities at the APHA 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting and Expo.
The target audience for the Early Career Professionals Scholarship is defined as anyone who falls within at least one of the below listed categories:
- New public health professional who has graduated in the last 24 months, is transitioning into the health promotion and health education workforce, and who works at the state or local level in public health.
- Special Health Workers (as formerly defined by APHA: persons employed in community health education and health promotion whose annual salary is less than $45,000)
Additional information on the 2020 PHEHP Early Career Professionals Scholarship, including a cover letter, backgrounder, and application form can be found here. The deadline for submission of all scholarship application materials is by August 22nd, 2020. All materials should be submitted as a single attachment (preferably as a single PDF) in an email to Dr. Rachel Mahas via rnagir@gmail.comby August 22nd, 2020.
