The Fund For Global Health - Internship Opportunity



Research Specialist


The University of Illinois Cancer Center is seeking candidates for a Research Specialist position. This position will support multiple research projects devoted to the ChicagoCHEC-Cancer Health Equity Collaborative. In addition, this position assists Research Scientists/Principal Investigators with their applications for federal or foundation grants and participates in publishing original research in peer reviewed publications, along with assisting in grant writing and progress reports to funding agencies.

  • Participates in specialized community based research in collaboration with UI Cancer Center Research Scientists/Principal Investigators.
  • Adheres to research aims to achieve sponsor objectives.
  • Uses proper scientific methods for publication and participate in scientific symposia.
  • Analyzes data and information, evaluates and reports findings to Research Scientists/Principal Investigators, research staff and national conferences.

  • Develops and maintains research records, grant information, research notes and resource utilization as documentation for sponsor.
  • Assists in the writing of ChicagoCHEC reports, grant submissions and IRB applications.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation for all ChicagoCHEC activities and programs, including, but not limited to meetings, conferences, community engagement, research with underserved populations, clinical trials and community engaged research.
  • Identifies and coordinates working relationships with peers at other research sites, Cancer Centers, university departments and appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives.
  • Attends meetings and committees related to the research projects, and represents


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of related research experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.

JOB SUMMARY
The University of Chicago Medicine’s (UCM) Urban Health Initiative (UHI) is committed to meeting the health needs of Chicago’s South Side communities.  It assesses community health needs, manages strategies (e.g., programs, partnerships) to respond to these needs and measures impacts on the community.  

As part of UChicago Medicine’s new Level 1 adult trauma care center, the Violence Recovery Program (VRP) is working to build a violence recovery ecosystem for victims of intentional violence and their families. The UHI oversees the VRP and the Assistant Project Manager serves as in-house project consultant to the administrative and clinical leadership of the program.  The Assistant Project Manager facilitates and coordinates analytical support to operational and clinical resource analysis and benchmarking initiatives and advises on issues related to process improvement and cost management.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist with Project Management: With supervision by the Director of Community Benefit and Evaluation, develops project plans and draft documents for the evaluation of the Violence Recovery Program. Responsible for all phases of evaluation plan, coordinating activities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of project.
  • Data Management. Coordinates the flow of data, obtains information from electronic and paper sources to complete reports, and organizes data in a manner that is accessible and usable. Writes programs and scripts for data transformation and analysis.  May assist in training staff.
  • Analysis and Reporting. Conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis. Produces standard and ad hoc reporting/data queries: provides accurate, concise reports to appropriate areas.
  • Quality Assurance. Ensures that data collection and storage meet regulatory requirements, audits information gathering processes. Formulates systems of checks and balances to increase reliability of data. Recommends and takes action to direct the analysis and solutions of problems. Develops tools to improve and standardize processes as applicable. Supports multidisciplinary work groups in consensus building.
  • Perform other duties departmental duties as identified and assigned by senior management.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree in Social Science or Public Policy preferred.
  • Knowledge of standard statistical techniques
  • Knowledge of qualitative data analysis tools and techniques
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently
  • Ability to coordinate numerous projects simultaneously

SUMMARY
The Hines Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC) has an opportunity for a full-time Clinical Data Manager (CDM) to help advance our research activities – with the goal of improving the health and wellbeing of our Veterans. We are seeking someone to be part of a multidisciplinary team on various clinical trials; the Clinical Data Manager supports research protocols starting in study planning, and through the collection, management, cleaning and reporting of clinical trial research data.
Hines CSPCC is located in the near-western suburbs of Chicago at the Hines VA Hospital, adjacent to Loyola University Medical Center. It is a research center for the VA which supports the design, conduct and analysis of national randomized clinical trials. Hines CSPCC was founded in 1974 and has in that time supported clinical trials across a wide variety of medical specialties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collaborate with study teams in planning to develop data management plans, case report forms (CRF/eCRF) and associated operational documents.
• Conduct trainings on electronic data capture systems (eDC) for study site coordinators and other research personnel.
• Regular review of submitted data for quality, accuracy, and reliability; generate queries and follow through to data reconciliation.
• Liaise and maintain strong working relationships with study leadership, sites, and internal customers.
• Identify and troubleshoot operational issues in data collection, and work with associated teams to implement solutions.
• Report on trends in timeliness and accuracy of data submission, query resolution, and other internal metrics.
• Ensure compliance with standards for Good Clinical Practice, Federal and VA regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures; document compliance as required.
• Undertake assigned tasks in support of research needs, which may include quality measures development, attending study meetings, assisting in administrative tasks, and consulting with other teams.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTORS
Communication, organization and interpersonal skills are of the utmost importance in daily activities as the incumbent will interact closely with other members of the Statistics and Data Management groups on various clinical projects.

REQUIREMENTS
Master’s degree in a science, health or public-health discipline preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in sciences with at least two years of related experience.

U.S. Citizenship required.

Who We Are



Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) is a five-year project of the Public Health Institute, supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Its goal is to strengthen the practice of global health across a learning-centered Fellowship and Internship program; capacity-building for host organizations; and knowledge-sharing collaborations between academic institutions.
Through a continuous focus on individual and institutional learning, STAR is amplifying the impact that professionals and organizations can make on global health practice.
  • Individual Learning: Each participant has a dedicated team of Learning and Performance Management specialists who help ensure a successful, productive experience. National Biosafety and Biocontainment Training Program (NBBTP) Fellowship based at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD

The NBBTP is a partnership between the Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS)
and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the National Institutes of
Health. This is a rare opportunity for individuals seeking work in high containment facilities to
receive professional training in biosafety and biocontainment at one of the foremost biomedical
research centers in the world. Additional information regarding the Fellowships and Professional

The NBBTP Fellowship is designed specifically for people interested in biosafety careers in high containment, including facility engineering and maintenance. This is an intensive two years,

includes traditional lectures, reading assignments, mentoring projects, and travel to off-site
conferences and training sessions.

Program Eligibility: NBBTP Fellowships are available only to U.S. citizens, permanent

necessary for working with select agents. Fellows must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree in
the Life Sciences (or related fields including plant/agriculture and/or veterinary academic
backgrounds or mechanical engineering/facility management), be willing to relocate to the

Data Management/Analysis Opportunity at Lurie Children's

Overview

Manages the research data of a multi-year randomized controlled trial, designed to alter developmental origins of disease via reduction of prenatal stress exposure. This position interacts closely with multiple stakeholders within and outside of the study, including the scientific leads, operational sponsors, study participants, and other academic and clinical partners. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of working independently with initiative and a strong sense of personal responsibility while maintaining a high standard managing complex data. Responsibilities include: Monitoring multiple systems to assure protocol adherence and data quality. Maintaining research data and preparing reports, preparing data files for analysis, and performing some independent statistical analysis of clinical research data for evaluation / process improvement purposes.

 

Responsibilities


Manages data capture, archival, curation and documentation for a complex clinical research study.

Develops and maintains systems for assuring adherence to study protocols and compliance with internal and external policies, standards, rules and regulations.
Identifies need for and coordinates participant follow up at each stage of the project.
Continuously ensures data quality and integrity by monitoring and validating study data as it is collected, and by maintaining reliable systems for data governance.
Maintains active surveillance of study operations to anticipate and proactively avoid fault points and barriers to study progress.
Performs foundational statistical analysis of clinical research data and works with study statistician to implement more complex statistical analyses as needed.
Works collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team at Lurie Children’s and Northwestern University with academic and clinical partners as well as study participants.
Responds to support requests and general questions from study participants regarding data collection equipment, study protocols, research consents, etc.
Monitors recruitment and documentation of study participants in accordance with study protocols, often working in close collaboration with clinicians and other staff.

Promotes clinical research activities within the hospital and the community.
Other job functions as assigned.

Qualifications


  1. Bachelors degre in social or behavioral sciences, physical science, education, nursing or related health field is required. Master’s degree preferred.  
  2. 1-2 years of experience working in a research setting preferred.
  3. Strong analytical, computational and organizational skills with consistent attention to detail. Strong customer service skills.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to address diverse/large audiences.
  5. Demonstrated working knowledge of regulatory practices required.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, with advanced skills in Excel (or similar) for data curation, analysis and basic visualization.
  7. Knolwedge of / experience with collecting and manipulating data in REDCap and/or orther data capture software.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting to fill an Asthma & Occupational Health Research Scientist position within the Bureau of Environmental & Occupational Health in Madison, Wisconsin.

Position Summary:   
This position provides scientific and technical leadership for the Asthma Control Program and Occupational Health Surveillance Program within BEOH. The incumbent is responsible for statewide asthma and occupational safety and health surveillance systems and activities, including the compilation of asthma program performance measures, the development of occupational health indicators, and occupational disease follow-back surveillance and epidemiological investigations. The incumbent serves as Principal Investigator directing research projects and analyses to discern exposure-disease relationships involving asthma and occupational health. The incumbent leads complex analytic epidemiologic studies involving multiple large datasets. 
The incumbent reviews scientific and epidemiological literature in order to develop and refine surveillance protocols and identify strategically appropriate activities for these programs. The incumbent is a member of professional teams working to plan, maintain, and evaluate activities focused on reducing the population’s risk of adverse asthma-related health outcomes, occupational disease and exposure to workplace environmental hazards. The incumbent works to maintain and expand partnerships for the benefit of the program, sets epidemiology program priorities, and presents surveillance and investigation results to interested groups. Furthermore, the incumbent leads the development and completion of peer-reviewed manuscripts, annual reports and grant applications as they relate to the scientific conduct of the program. 
The incumbent is also responsible for serving as an epidemiologic and scientific expert within BEOH and DPH, providing scientific consultation to other programs and management on epidemiologic and statistical methodologies. The incumbent adds high-level analytic capacity to address environmental and occupational outbreaks and to mentor BEOH assignees and fellows. This position leads efforts to develop and refine BEOH health outcome measures for performance management and provides Division-level expertise to state health assessments and public health improvement activities.
