The CDC Foundation is actively hiring for their COVID Response Corps for positions including contact tracers, epidemiologists, nurses, project managers, administrative assistants, and others – in locations around the country. Today there are many job postings on their COVID-19 Corps jobs website, and it is being updated with new opportunities daily. For graduating students of public health with an undergraduate or master level degree this spring, students are encouraged to look at the listing at the end of the job postings for contact tracers nationwide. There are a number of contract tracer positions and as the front line COVID public health workers, these positions provide an outstanding opportunity to work with the nation’s lead agency charged with protecting the public's health.These contact tracer positions will be trained and placed in local health departments to call people diagnosed with COVID-19, gather their contacts, and proceed to call every contact in reference. This is in tandem with community-wide efforts to increase testing, improve communication and implementation of isolation and quarantine. This will fortify efforts to control the pandemic. The contact tracer may use a web-based contact resource management (CRM) platform to document a symptom check, refer them for testing according to established protocols, and provide them with instructions for quarantine. Research Project Manager, Hines CSPCC The incumbent will be the principal figure in providing administrative support and coordination for studies that vary in length of time, number of participating sites and number of research subjects for the Hines Cooperative Studies Program Coordinating Center (CSPCC). 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participates in the planning of the proposed study and development of the research proposal. Coordinates interaction and cooperation between the research study site investigators, site coordinators, the CSPCC, the Study Chairpersons, the Albuquerque Research Pharmacy (CSPCRPCC), any outside funding agencies and any technical support facilities required for the studies.
  • Serves as a resource person regarding details of the study protocol and facilitates training for study personnel to ensure they follow the study protocol and data collection procedures. Assists in development and distribution of the study operations manual. Drafts study correspondence and ensures that appropriate tasks, correspondence and study documentation are completed in the sequence established by CSP. 
  • Prepares agendas and materials for study meetings in consultation with study team. Participates in study conference calls and attends study meetings. Serves as a recorder of minutes and prepares draft reports of meetings, when needed.
  • Serves as primary liaison with all participating study sites in securing both initial and yearly approvals from Institutional Review Board of record and Research & Development Committees.
  • Coordinates the Human Rights Committee (HRC) site visits and ensures that all required documentation for conducting these visits are prepared and distributed. Maintains documentation of Study Group, Executive Committee, Data Monitoring Committee and HRC reports. 
  • Reviews all budget requests for accuracy and evaluates special requests for budgetary increases and makes recommendations. Monitors expenditures of study funds to ensure the study is within budget. Prepares budget summary and reports as required. Recommends and oversees the purchase of study equipment, patient incentives and other items needed for the studies. 
  • Receives and manages the distribution of the site monitoring reports and site audit responses to sites, CSP offices, Study Chairpersons and any necessary outside agencies. 
  • Assists in the quality assurance process for assigned studies and responsible for maintenance of the study Central Study File per GCP requirements.  Assists site personnel in maintaining site documentation in compliance with GCP and VA requirements


Other Significant Factors
Incumbent must be able to work independently and plan, coordinate and organize work in a situation where numerous "top priority" demands are involved. Must be able to act independently and be prepared to deal with a myriad of complex problems. The major responsibility of the incumbent is to oversee the day-to-day function of a multi-site study and to independently deal with many of the difficulties that arise.
 The incumbent devises and modifies methods and procedures that effect the accomplishment of the mission of this study. Identifies and resolves various problems and situations that affect the orderly and efficient flow of data acquisition and administrative transactions. This work directly affects the quality, quantity, and accuracy of the study/studies.
This work requires knowledge and skill in the application of related laws, regulations, policies, precedents, methods and project management of clinical trials. Communication, organization and interpersonal skills are of the utmost importance in daily activities as incumbent will  coordinate interaction and cooperation between the study site investigators, the CSPCC, the study chairman and office staff, the CSP Albuquerque Research Pharmacy, VA CSP Central Office and the VA Office of Research & Development. Must also have excellent verbal and writing skills. 

Baccalaureate degree in a science, e.g., biology, chemistry, psychology, public health or health related field is minimum requirement but advanced degree is preferred. The advanced degree can be in another field such as project management if the baccalaureate degree fulfills the minimum requirement.

Job Opening: Emergency Response Coordinator

The City of Evanston Health Department is seeking an Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC) to assist with the city’s COVID-19 emergency responses.  The ERC will work with the Health Department and with other City staff. 

Days of Operation : 2-3 days a week, 8:30-5pm for 90 days, not to exceed 30 hours per week  

NATURE OF WORK Under the general direction of the Director of Health or the Public Health Manager, this person assists with training all Health Department staff, first responders, the public and other allied health care professionals.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

 Participates in special surveys and research projects related to emergency planning, surveillance and analysis of data in order to assure public health preparedness.   Assists in planning and providing strategies for public health emergency preparedness and City readiness initiatives.  Responsible as the department’s liaison to various bio-terrorism, emergency preparedness and disease surveillance task forces and agencies    Organizes webinars, conference calls and video calls on a regular basis to convey relevant and pertinent preparedness efforts and best practices.   Maintain knowledge of public health preparedness methods and current developments in the area of public health emergencies and response.   Performs required procedures in application of the law, policies and regulations pertaining emergency preparedness and response.   Analyzes data from various surveillance system and/or special studies; presents information and works closely with stakeholders from other areas of public health, state, federal agencies and health care providers.   Provides a report of emergency preparedness and provides guidelines in execution of best emergency response strategies.   Acts as a liaison to outside vendors in the design and implementation of emergency preparedness programming.   Maintain , manage and recruit Medical Reserve Corps and the MRC database  Provides role-specific training related to bio-terrorism for the workforce, especially regarding distribution of the National Pharmaceutical Stockpile.  Promotes Public Health Preparedness through internal and external communication resources.  Performs various duties in support of health department operations  Performs other duties as required. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK  Must possess a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, Nursing, or a substantially similar area.  Possession of a Master’s Degree in Public Health or Nursing is preferred.   Must possess one (1) or more years of work experience with Public Health management, emergency preparedness or administration.  Work experience in a government setting is preferred.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:  Excellent facilitation/training, written and verbal communication skills.  Excellent planning/organizational skills and experience in coordinating large scale training programs (preferably in a public health care environment).   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff as well as the City of Evanston as a whole at all levels including external partner organizations and vendors, leaders of professional associations and health care membership organizations, schools of public health, state and local health departments.

NCCVEH Summer Internship

One in 17 preschool children have a vision condition requiring treatment, including amblyopia, strabismus and refractive errors. Vision plays an important role in children’s physical, cognitive, and social development and much vision loss can be prevented if conditions in children are found and treated early.
The National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health (NCCVEH) at Prevent Blindness targets children ages birth through 18 years, including children facing the greatest health disparities based on race, language, socio-economic status, citizenship status, geography (especially rural areas and Indian Country). As an organization fostering systems change, our systems-change work targets policy makers, medical and education professionals, public health and education state and local governmental staff, and parents and caregivers.
Join our team as an intern to assist with projects that may include:
▪ Develop and implement a survey of special education programs regarding how vision is addressed within the systems serving children with special health care needs and those with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) in school systems.
▪ Develop professional education materials for those working in the Early Intervention and special education systems about vision.
▪ Conduct program evaluation, including developing surveys, collecting data, analyzing data and creating reports. Summarize data from a national survey of state school nurse consultants about vision screening and create a paper for publication.
▪ Implement and evaluate a social media campaign targeted to parents and caregivers of minority children related to children’s vision and eye health.
▪ Create fact sheets for school nurses, educators, early childhood care providers, public health professionals and policy makers.
▪ Participate in drafting of national guidelines for vision screening of children ages 6-18 years.
▪ Develop educational materials (including presentations and posters) on children’s vision, focusing on the Small Steps for Big Vision family tool kit geared toward parents and caregivers of young children.
▪ Conduct literature reviews related to vision needs of and policies for children with special health care needs.
▪ Participate in preparation of materials for the NCCVEH Advisory Committee and its work groups.

Internship Opportunity Summer 2020: Emergency Food Support

This position will assist with coordination of the West Side United (WSU) Food Pantry Initiative Work Group. West Side United is a coalition of six hospitals (Lurie Children’s, Rush, Mt. Sinai, Cook County, Amita, and UI Health) that are working to decrease the life expectancy gap in West Town, East Garfield, West Garfield, Austin, Near West Side, North Lawndale, South Lawndale, Lower West Side, and Belmont Cragin neighborhoods.
The Food Pantry Initiative Group is part of the WSU Food Access Initiative. The Food Access Initiative has the goal of better connecting patients, screened as food insecure to healthy food resources in their neighborhoods. One resource for free, healthy (emergency) food is food pantries. Each of the six hospitals have selected one pantry to support. The hospital will offer this pantry additional help based on the pantry’s needs. This could be financial assistance, volunteers, food donations, mental health screenings and more.
The food pantry that Lurie Children’s Hospital is supporting is Iglesia Evangelica Emanuel, located in Belmont Cragin.

Description of activities/function of the MPH student:
·         Participate in monthly Food Access Initiative meetings with representatives from each Hospital
·         Participate in and lead discussions during monthly Food Pantry Initiative Work Group Meetings
·         Identify resources and pathways to connect pantry clients to nutrition education
·         Identify new channels for receiving fruit and vegetable donations
·         Identify and coordinate community resources for screenings and wraparound services
·         Assist in the development and administration of a baseline client survey
·         Assist in the development and implementation of a quarterly food pantry coordinator survey

CLOCC works with the Chicago Park District to implement and evaluate an enhanced curriculum, which is focused on health and wellness, called CampWell. CLOCC summer interns will act as research assistance. In this role, interns will assist with data collection at parks as well as data entry at CLOCC’s office. Interns will make weekly visits to parks for evaluation and data collection. The summer intern will work to gather survey and observational data at 6 Chicago Park District day camps throughout Chicago. Data will be collected through surveys with camp counselors, junior counselors, site directors, campers, and campers’ parents. Other data collection activities include analysis of secondary data sources, observation of camp activities and camper physical activity, and objective measurement of camper physical activity. Time spent in CLOCCs office will consist of data entry and analysis.

Description of activities/function of the MPH student:
·        Follow survey and interview protocol as directed.
·        Work with park district staff to schedule data collection visits.
·        Recruit and obtain consent from participants.
·        Conduct observational data collection activities according to protocol.
·        Administration of a survey according to instructions.
