Position Announcement: Research Specialist (Evaluation) at SUHI

The Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) is a research center dedicated to improving the health of Chicago’s urban communities. Led by a team of committed and energetic social epidemiologists, the Institute provides evidence-based examination of community health status, the effectiveness of interventions and clinical care, and health-care delivery methodologies.

We are seeking a Research Specialist to contribute to SUHI’s evaluation and technical assistance strategy. Candidates that are bilingual in Spanish and English are strongly encouraged to apply.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversees recruitment, enrollment and tracking of subjects, preparing regular reports of recruitment and intervention progress
  • Collects relevant information and performs literature searches for proposals, reports and/or publications
  • Assists in the development and/or identification of data collection forms for program use
  • Collects data from program participants and survey respondents for research and/or evaluation purposes
  • Gathers and compiles data from a variety of sources, including patient medical records and surveys
  • Develops, implements, and maintains databases
  • Enters program information into databases as required/ assigned
  • May develop reports and/or queries to pull relevant data from databases for reporting purposes
  • Trains program staff on data collection and data entry procedures
  • Actively participate in meetings related to research or evaluation projects
  • Has a working knowledge of IRB policies, and assists in the preparation of IRB documentation
  • Copying, emailing, mailing, faxing, scheduling meetings and other administrative duties as needed
  • Develops procedures for maintaining databases, data records/files, and ensures staff follows procedures
  • Contributes to the development and planning of new projects and programs
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned/required
Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a public health or research setting, or a MPH in epidemiology, statistics, medical sociology, or a related field. 
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point, and the ability to pick-up additional computer skills as needed. Experience with Redcap preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to play an active role in the monitoring of and reporting on data
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and data management skills
  • Self-initiating with an ability to meet deadlines and work on several projects at one time
  • Able to supervise and mentor other staff
  • Available to travel within city area for meetings, outreach events, and intervention activities
  • May require visits to clients’ homes; candidate must be comfortable with the prospect of home visits
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required
