Brief Organization Description:  The mission of IDPH is to promote health through the prevention and control of disease and injury.  IDPH has programs to deal with persistent problems that require continued vigilance – infectious diseases, food borne and communicable diseases, vaccine preventable diseases, lead poisoning, lack of health care options in rural and urban areas, health disparities among racial groups, sexually transmitted diseases, tobacco use, chronic diseases, violence and other conditions associated with high-risk behaviors. In addition, IDPH has been charged with handling the state's response to the threat of bioterrorism. IDPH is organized into six offices, each of which addresses a distinct area of public health. Each office operates and supports numerous ongoing programs and is prepared to respond to extraordinary situations as they arise.

Internship Information:  IDPH Office of Health Promotion’s Division of Oral Health is looking for an interested and motivated intern to expand the Division’s work. For the calendar year 2020, the Divisions priorities are: updating the Illinois Oral Health Plan, developing a work plan for oral health survey for preschool children, and completing an oral health toolkit for health care professionals, organizations and community members.  The intern will be able to select one or more of these priority projects in an area of public health practice and assist the Division in moving these forward to completion.

Location: The work will take place at the IDPH offices located at 122 W. Michigan Ave 7th floor, Chicago.
